How we choose
We recommend very little, on purpose. Whether it's one of our own planners or a companion product from another brand, everything we feature has to pass the same plain test: does it genuinely help you get this part of retirement in order? Here's exactly how we decide.
The bar every pick clears
It has to solve a real retirement task, the way a real family would use it. For anything that touches sensitive paperwork, safe-by-design wins: we favor products that hold where things are and who to call over ones that invite you to write down passwords or account numbers.
Clear instructions, readable type, no fiddly setup. If a 70-year-old can't use it without a manual, it doesn't make the list.
We weigh price against what you actually get, and flag the free or lower-cost path when one exists. More expensive rarely means better here.
For products from other brands, we look for a strong, consistent track record across many independent buyers — not a handful of glowing reviews.
Our own products come first
The planners, organizers, and books we publish are the heart of Retirement In Order — we write them, use them, and stand behind them. When one of our own products fits the job, that's what we recommend first. Companion products from other brands fill the gaps our catalog doesn't — a fireproof bag for your binder, a pill organizer, a large-print notebook — never the main event.
How affiliate links work
Some of the links to other brands' products are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Retirement In Order earns from qualifying purchases.
Good to know
Some links are affiliate links — if you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend or the price you pay. We only feature products that meet the criteria on this page, and our own planners and books are always the first thing we point to.
Our own planners and books we make and use ourselves. For companion products from other brands, we select by clear criteria — fitness for the job, safety, value, and strong independent reviews — and we say plainly when a pick is research-selected rather than hands-on tested.
On purpose. We'd rather point you to the one or two things that genuinely fit the job than bury you in options. If nothing clears the bar for a given need, we leave it out.
